Solar installation in Mombasa and the coast

Hot afternoons, air conditioning and long hours of strong sun make the coast one of the best places in Kenya to go solar. We install across Mombasa County and the wider coast, with systems specified for heat and salt air.

Why solar works so well on the coast

  • Your biggest load runs when the sun is strongest. Air conditioning, fans and cold rooms work hardest in the middle of the day, exactly when panels produce the most. Power used as it is generated comes straight off the panels, which is the cheapest unit there is.
  • Hotels, guesthouses and apartments carry large daytime loads and cannot afford to go dark. A hybrid system with a battery keeps lights, pumps, card machines and refrigeration running through an outage.
  • Shops, offices and restaurants in town trade in daylight, so their use and generation line up well.

Built for heat and salt air

Coastal installations need more care than inland ones. When you compare quotes in Mombasa, check:

  • Corrosion. Salt air attacks ordinary steel. Mounting rails should be aluminium, and fixings should be corrosion-resistant. Our mounting system uses aluminium rails.
  • Battery placement. Heat shortens battery life. The battery and inverter belong in a shaded, ventilated space, never in a hot roof void or a sun-facing wall.
  • Battery chemistry. LiFePO4 lithium tolerates heat far better than lead-acid, which degrades quickly in coastal temperatures. Every Elumina system uses LiFePO4. See our battery guide.
  • Cleaning. Salt and dust film the glass. Rinsing with clean water a few times a year keeps output up; our maintenance plan includes it.

Prices

System prices are the same as everywhere in Kenya: KSh 289,000 (5 kWh), KSh 349,000 (7.5 kWh, our most popular), KSh 429,000 (10 kWh) and KSh 599,000 (15 kWh), installed, with a lithium battery and no VAT. Transport and travel are quoted in writing at survey, before you commit. Monthly plans run over 12, 24 or 36 months. Full details are on our solar prices page.

How it works in Mombasa

  1. Send your bill. Share your last Kenya Power bill on WhatsApp, or use the savings calculator. You get a written estimate within 24 hours.
  2. Survey. We arrange a site survey to check your roof, shade, wiring and the loads you run, and give you the transport figure in writing.
  3. Written quote. Every component itemised, one installed price, and the monthly output we guarantee.
  4. Installation by our own technicians, usually one day on site.
  5. Commissioning with a metered output reading that becomes your performance guarantee. Faults are acknowledged within 24 hours and attended within 72.

Common questions

Do you install solar in Mombasa?

Yes. We install across Mombasa County and the wider coast, including Nyali, Bamburi, Mtwapa, Diani, Kilifi and Malindi. System prices are the same as in Nairobi; transport is quoted in writing at survey.

Does salt air damage solar panels in Mombasa?

Salt air corrodes ordinary steel fixings, so coastal systems should use aluminium rails and corrosion-resistant fixings, and the panels should be rinsed a few times a year. Our mounting system uses aluminium rails.

Can solar run air conditioning in Mombasa?

Yes, within the inverter's rating. Air conditioning runs hardest in the middle of the day when panels produce the most, which is why coastal homes and hotels see strong savings. A survey sizes the system to your actual units.
