Solar installation in Kisumu and western Kenya

For homes and businesses around the lake, solar does two jobs: it cuts the Kenya Power bill and keeps the lights, fridges and freezers running when the grid goes down. We install across Kisumu County and western Kenya.

Why Kisumu homes and businesses go solar

  • Refrigeration that cannot stop. Fish, dairy, drinks and medicines all depend on cold storage. A hybrid system with a battery switches over the moment the grid drops, so fridges and freezers keep running.
  • Daytime trade. Shops, salons, hotels, offices and workshops use most of their power in daylight, which is when solar generates. That is where the fastest payback is.
  • Warm, sunny weather for most of the year means strong generation. We size against the cloudiest month, not the average, so a well-sized system carries a dull week.

Getting it right in a warm climate

  • Install the battery and inverter somewhere shaded and ventilated; heat is the main thing that shortens battery life.
  • Choose LiFePO4 lithium over lead-acid. It handles heat and daily cycling far better. See our battery guide.
  • Check that the inverter is big enough for compressors starting up, which draw several times their running power for a moment. Our sizing guide explains why.
